As the temperature changes, nozzle clogging issues of DTF printers are becoming increasingly frequent. Keditec will inform you in this article how to prevent and protect the nozzles of DTF printers.
1. Main Causes of Nozzle Clogging
- White ink sedimentation (titanium dioxide settles quickly)
- Low humidity (<40%) or high temperature (>30°C)
- No regular cleaning or capping
- Mixing different ink brands
- Dust or lint in the workshop
2. Solutions by Severity
Mild Clogging (missing lines)
- Run 1–2 light cleaning cycles from the printer driver
- Wait 10 minutes between cycles
- Wipe nozzle surface gently with lint-free cloth + cleaning fluid
Moderate Clogging (cleaning not working)
- Remove printhead and use a syringe to push cleaning fluid backward
- Soak nozzle in 40–50°C purified water for 15–20 min
- Check and replace filters if needed
Severe Clogging (no ink output)
- Soak in professional heavy-duty cleaning solution for 20–30 min
- Flush each nozzle hole with a fine syringe
- Replace printhead if still blocked (contact supplier)
3. Preventive Measures
- Use original or certified white ink only
- Enable ink agitation function daily
- Keep humidity 40–60%, temperature 20–28°C
- Clean waste ink pad weekly
- Always cap the printhead before turning off

5. Summary
Nozzle clogging is inevitable in DTF printing, but most cases can be solved without replacing the printhead. The key is to match the solution to the clogging severity:
- Mild → automatic cleaning + gentle wiping
- Moderate → reverse flushing + warm water soak
- Severe → professional soak + syringe flush
More importantly, prevention is always better than repair. By controlling humidity and temperature, using certified white ink, enabling daily ink agitation, and capping the printhead after every use, you can extend printhead life from months to years.
Rule of thumb:
If your printer sits idle for more than 24 hours without proper moisturizing, clogging is almost guaranteed.
